Gerina Stevenson, the Mexican daughter of Rita Stevenson Stevenson and Alan Stevenson Stevenson, was born in Mexico. She has Mexican roots, yet is American by nationality. The desire to be a sportsperson was born as a child. Gerina began playing golf after she turned 15 years old. Gerina graduated from high school education through Goddard High School. She won at the New Mexico State Golf Tournament in her high school years. She was also an athlete in volleyball who played at the state level. The first time she attended the University of Texas. In her senior year, she was a winner in every single tournament that she took part in. During undergraduate studies she won the titles that included Conference USA Female Athlete and Conference USA Individual Player of the year.
